Your actual limit can be lower when HSA eligibility begins or ends during the year. Eligibility is tested on the first day of each month. Employer contributions, salary-reduction contributions, and personal contributions all use the same limit.

Catch-up contributions belong to one spouse

Each eligible spouse age 55 or older can make a $1,000 catch-up contribution, but each catch-up must go into that spouse's own HSA. The family base limit may be divided by agreement; one spouse cannot place the other spouse's catch-up in the same account.
